Fishing licenses are required by the State of Michigan for every angler 17 years of age and older. Yes, you still need a fishing license when on a charter boat. Licenses can be purchased at many retailers and over the Internet.

What type of license do you need?
Michigan Fishing licenses are available in three (3) types:
Al fishing license are valid for all species. That said, you must also request a free musky tag if you intend to harvest a musky or a free sturgeon permit and tag if you intend to harvest a sturgeon during their open season.
Fishing licenses continue to be very reasonably priced in Michigan. The cost of your license depends on your classification, ie: resident or non-resident, senior, military, etc. The MDNR website will show you all your options.
